Reflection Mode – Part II

As I write this post, it’s days before 2020 and a brand new decade. I’m so excited at the possibilities the new year and decade will bring. I wanted to share a few personal notes as I took a look back at the 2010’s. Why? I wanted you to learn a little more about me. This is also for anyone who has never done a year end, let alone decade in review. There’s so much power in pausing, looking at past events in your life, so that you can take what you need, learn from the past, and move forward.

In the 2010’s I finished graduate school and got my PsyD. I remember defending on 12/10/2010. That was the same year I landed my dream job as a Professional Development Coach. For those who believe in the power of manifestation, I was at a seminar called “The Bigger Game” and we were talking about career. I just finished talking about how much I wanted to work as a coach within an organization. During a break, I got a phone call from a friend asking me if I’d be interested in interviewing for an internal coaching position. What?!! Hello Universe! I got the job. It’s been a great experience. I got promoted twice since I started, and it’s been fulfilling to work with a fantastic group. I felt that the last decade was primarily focused on work.

Looking at other aspects of life, I noticed something different. I travelled minimally over the last decade. I visited my parents here and there for Christmas. I managed to fly out to see my best friend twice. I went out of the country twice; I used to travel more frequently. I get that we have seasons in life, and I missed traveling and didn’t do anything about it. In the health realm, my weight fluctuated and I hit a high in 2018 that was not healthy and I was embarrassed by it. How could I let myself go? I didn’t take up any personal development courses again until 2018. I didn’t start painting again until the end of 2017.

The end of 2017 to early 2018 was the start of a shift for me. I signed up for a course called Making Art, Making Money with Ann Rea. I highly recommend it if you are an artist looking for a blueprint to sell your artwork. I also joined the 21st century and started listening to podcasts. I’ll share my favorites in another post soon! I got really inspired and started taking some online courses to continue my development and started creating again.

My biggest takeaway from the last decade is to be present and live each day with my purpose and mission in mind. Where can I make a difference today, with my husband, friends, with a stranger at the grocery store? As a person who is in the development space, I think it’s equally important to hone our craft, skills, and continue to develop ourselves. Learn what our triggers are; seek therapy if needed. My personal bias is that every person needs some therapy at some point. I don’t know anyone who has had a perfect life, do you? I do my best not to look at past events as “good” or “bad” I do my best to take the learning from whatever happens.

I haven’t fully crafted my 10 year plan. That’s still in the works but I have a few areas in mind where I want to make a big impact. How about you? If you are feeling stuck and want to connect, please feel free to fill out a form or email me at clarissa@clarissastudio.com. I’m here for you!
