At the time of this writing, it’s December 2020. I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like the holidays bring stress although it’s a wonderful time of the year. During these covid times, things are…different. I noticed people started putting up lights and holiday stuff right after Halloween. I think everyone is just over this pandemic and wants to get back to normalcy. I’ve had a hard time concentrating on work…it’s a time of year when one can feel a little out of balance. Are you with me or am I alone in this? How are you feeling these days?
I did a live on FB today talking about getting back to balance…here’s a few things to consider if you are feeling out of sorts.
1. Start with a quick assessment. On a scale of 1-10, how “balanced” are you feeling today? It might be helpful to hone in on a specific area in your life like nutrition, exercise, spirituality, work life harmony. Pick 1-2 areas if it’s tough to rate your whole life.
2. Decide. The good news is you get to choose balance. Decide you want to be more balanced.
3. Set up a realistic goal for yourself. Make a plan. For exercise, can you commit to 30 minutes every day to do something? It doesn’t even need to be all at once. If every day is too daunting, can you choose 4x a week? Still too daunting, how about 3x a week? If self-care is an area for you, can you identify 1 self-care activity for the week?
4. Schedule your balance activities. It might sound funny, but if it doesn’t get booked, it didn’t happen! This won’t work unless you do the work, so please calendar your activities.
5. Be willing to change and try. Make an effort to work your plan.
6. Check yourself at the end of the week or every other week. How did you do? Did you exercise 3 or 4 times this week? Yes or no? Celebrate your wins to solidify the behavior. If you missed, reflect on what got in the way and start again!
I hope these suggestions help you. If you have any other ideas, please let me know!
