It’s almost 2021! During this time, I tend to focus on new goals, new ideas, new vision for the upcoming year. I’m an optimist! That said, I’ve developed a new practice before vision boarding. It’s a look back a current year. It’s a simple practice and can be very powerful if you do the work. I started incorporating this journaling into my vision board workshops. It goes like this…
Before we can create a clear path for the new year, it would be great to take a look back and see how far we’ve come. Recognize the milestones and celebrate the wins. It’s just as important to look at what got in the way. What do you need to let go of before moving forward? Drop what’s not working. Here are a few prompts you can ask yourself for a year end reflection.
1. How were you feeling in January 2020?
2. How are you feeling today (December 2020)?
3. What can you celebrate? Where breakthroughs did you have in work, relationships, health, self-care, spirituality, mindset, other? List them all down. No win is too small or too big.
4. Where did you get stuck this year? What aspect(s) of life? Work, relationship, health, self-care, spirituality, mindset, other.
5. What lessons did you repeat?
6. What got in the way of your growth? Name the limiting belief(s). For example, “I don’t know what to do…I’m not good enough…I don’t know enough…I’m too old/young…”
7. What will you let go of and NOT bring into the new year? Write it in the present tense. For example, “I let go of being solely focused on the outcome…I let go of the idea that I’m too old…I let go of the idea that I need to work super hard and long hours to make money…I let go of worrying all the time…”
8. When you let go, what new possibilities do you create for the new year?
9. What habit(s) do you adopt so that you can be in the new possibilities? For example, “I commit to developing my morning routine by 1/11/21 to start my day off on the right foot…I commit to X minutes/hours a day/week to planning for the week…I commit to self-care Sundays…”
10. What word(s) come to mind that represent who you desire to be in the new year? For example, “Radiant, Resourceful, Epic, Trailblazer, Calm…”
Let me know how it goes for you! I’m cheering you on.
